Courtney Elaine Frederick

Biography: 

Courtney Elaine Frederick is a postdoctoral associate in the Department of Cellular and Molecular Physiology where she conducts research in the laboratory of Dr. David Zenisek. In the laboratory, her goal is to determine the function of the ribbon synapses which are present in the eyes, ears, and vertebrates, as well as in the vestibular organs of fish. She is fascinated by how sensory information such as light and sound is turned into to information that organisms can use to adapt to and engage with their environment.

Courtney is a proud graduate of the illustrious Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, Florida where she received a B.S. in Cellular and Molecular Biology and an M.S. in Chemistry. She attained her PhD in Pharmacology, Physiology and Biotechnology from Brown University in Providence, RI.  

While thoroughly committed to her scientific endeavors, Courtney is extremely dedicated to effecting positive change for people of all backgrounds and abilities whenever and wherever possible. To this end, she serves as a coordinator on the advocacy committee.
