Registration is now open for many of CTL Fundamentals of Teaching series. These mini courses are focused on preparing first time Teaching Fellows. Members of the Yale community are welcome to register.

Fundamentals of Teaching Texts in the Humanities
In this four-part workshop, participants will learn to identify and develop good teaching practices, with particular attention to courses incorporating literary and scholarly texts. In the first session, participants will prepare for their first teaching experiences of the semester. In subsequent sessions, participants will acquire skills that allow them to: structure sections and draft lesson plans, facilitate engaging and productive discussions, assess and evaluate student work, and discuss techniques for responding to teaching challenges. Fundamentals of Teaching History
Are you preparing to teach a history section for the first time, or looking to hone your classroom skills? Then come join us for this interactive series. Sessions will meet twice a week to help you become more confident in the classroom before sections begin. Together we will explore the basics of section planning, explore strategies to stimulate engaging and meaningful discussion, develop creative learning activities, and discuss how to help your students become stronger writers. We will also dedicate significant time to addressing grading and assessment as well as student and TF expectations for a successful section. Fundamentals of Teaching Science (Medical Campus)
Are you teaching a class, section, or lab in the sciences for the first time? Have you taught before but are looking for ways to become a more engaging and effective teacher? Then join us for this interactive three-week workshop in which we will discuss many of the nuts and bolts that will help you lead a successful (and enjoyable) class, section, or lab this year. Topics will include setting goals for your class, adapting to various learning styles and environments, engaging your class through active learning, soliciting feedback, and grading effectively. Fundamentals of Teaching Language
Run by the Yale Center for Language Study, this five-week workshop series is designed to help new and returning language instructors build confidence in the classroom and develop a range of strategies for leading an engaging and effective language course grounded in second language teaching methodology. The workshop also acts as a forum for teachers of all languages to share experiences and ideas with their colleagues. This series will build on the topics covered in the Center for Teaching and Learning’s Language Study Pedagogy Workshop. The Fundamentals is also a core requirement of the Second Language Acquisition Certificate program offered by the Center for Teaching and Learning.
