Ananthanarayanan Kumar

Role: Professional Development Committee Member

Biography:

Ananth is a postdoctoral fellow in Dr. Anna Pyle’s lab at the Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology Department. His research interests include structural studies of large protein-nucleic acid complexes and dissecting their functions using in vitro biochemical approaches. He did his PhD in Dr. Lori Passmore’s lab at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, University of Cambridge. During his PhD, Ananth used electron cryo-microscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance, cross-linking mass spectrometry, and biochemical reconstitution to unravel the molecular architecture and activity of the eukaryotic mRNA 3’-end processing machinery. While in Cambridge, Ananth volunteered in the GATES girls in STEM program, and here at Yale, he continues to be invovled in STEM outreach via WiSTEM. Outside the lab, Ananth is interested in science advocacy, magic realism, kendo and cricket. By being a part of the YPDA, Ananth wishes to contrubte to enhancing the professional experiences of current postdocs and is partcilarly excited to be a part of the community at YPDA.
