Chrispin Chaguza

Role: Professional Development Committee Member

Biography:

Chrispin Chaguza is currently a Postdoctoral Associate in the research group of Dr. Nathan Grubaugh in the Department of Epidemiology of Microbial Diseases at the Yale School of Public Health. Chrispin’s current research aims to understand better the genomic epidemiology and the evolution of microbial pathogens, especially viruses such as SARS-CoV-2, dengue, and West Nile viruses. Beyond viruses, his research focuses on analysing bacterial genomic datasets for pathogens such as Streptococcus pneumoniae, Group B Streptococcus, and others.

Chrispin completed a Ph.D. in Infection and Immunity (Bioinformatics) at the University of Liverpool (UK) and an MSc in Bioinformatics and Systems Biology at the University of Manchester (UK). Before coming to Yale, he worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Wellcome Sanger Institute, Cambridge, UK, where he remains an honorary member. He was also a College Research Associate at the Darwin College, University of Cambridge. To maintain his connection with the UK, Chrispin is an Honorary Senior Research Fellow at the University College London and the University of Liverpool, collaborating with several research groups on the genomics and epidemiology of bacterial and viral pathogens.

Chrispin is keen to participate in the Professional Development Committee and connect with fellow postdocs in the Yale Postdoctoral Association.
