Emily Sutton

Role: Symposium Committee Member; Communication subcommittee lead

Biography:

Emily is a molecular biologist and postdoctoral associate in the laboratory of Dr. Susan Baserga. Her research focuses on the regulation of ribosome biogenesis. Ribosomes are the molecular machines that translate proteins from RNA. Aberrations in the process of making ribosomes can lead to a variety of disease outcomes. Emily received her PhD from the University of Oregon in the laboratory of Dr. Victoria DeRose studying the impacts of platinum chemotherapy drugs on the nucleolus, which is the subcellular organelle where eukaryotic ribosomes are made. In her free time she enjoys cooking and hiking.
