Laura Santos

Role: YPA Chair, Professional Development Committee Co-coordinator

Biography: Laura is a postdoctoral associate in Pr. Crews lab in the department of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology at Yale University. She is designing new small molecules for ligand discovery. She received a Fulbright Research grant to generate novel therapeutic strategies by inducing the degradation of proteins. Laura obtained a double Master’s Degree in organic chemistry and in Medicinal molecules synthesis at the National Graduate School of Chemistry of Montpellier in France. In 2022, she completed her PhD in Fluorine chemistry at the University of Strasbourg. She focused on the fluoroalkylation as a tool to design bioactive agrochemicals in collaboration with Bayer CropScience. Laura is passionate about medicinal chemistry and she gained professional experience by working for life science companies in the past years. In her free time, she was an active member of a rescue organisation for retired horses and also promoted the well-being and the socialization of dogs before adoption. As an animal lover, she started Polo at Yale while conducting her research. Laura was in charge of several events during her studies. She organized team buildings and social events for her PhD lab. She was also involved in the preparation of the Gala of her Graduate school. By joining the Professional Development group of YPA she is motivated to plan new events for Postdocs at Yale.
