Maikel Boot

Role: Chair

Biography: Maikel Boot is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Rego Lab in the department of Microbial Pathogenesis at the Yale University School of Medicine. His research focuses on mapping the consequences of bacterial cell-to-cell variation of the causative agent of tuberculosis, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, on macrophage infection. He uses live-cell super-resolution microscopy (3D-SIM) to study long-term mycobacterial macrophage infections. Maikel was a true early bird when he joined the YPA a week before the official start of his contract. He started out as a communication committee member and later became the coordinator of this committee. During his time he implemented the Mailchimp version of the YPA monthly newsletter, created a YPA Facebook page and started a social media presence on Twitter. Maikel is currently a chair of the YPA and his mission is to actively improve the life and wellness of the Postdoc community at Yale. In addition he hopes that the YPA will create a broader sense of community among Postdocs through the many events that are hosted. After work hours, Maikel can be found in Payne Whitney in the evenings, but is also a regular at the YPA social events.
