Statement on Antisemitism

The recent hate crimes on campus targeting our Jewish community are abhorrent and unacceptable. Actions and behaviors of this nature have no place at our University and will not be tolerated. Safety and wellbeing should not be the price anyone has to pay for education or employment.

Antisemitism (also spelled anti-semitism or anti-Semitism) is hostility to, prejudice towards, or discrimination against Jewish people. Antisemitism can take both traditional and contemporary forms that are related to Israel, which for many Jewish postdocs, is an integral part of their identity and their ethnic and ancestral heritage.

Postdocs, on behalf of the YPA, offer their support and solidarity to Jewish postdocs, students, faculty and staff who have been affected by antisemitic hate, and we condemn such disgusting behaviour.

The YPA are committed to creating a welcoming, inclusive and supportive environment to all postdocs here at Yale, and want to work together with people of all ethnicities, religions, countries of origin, and backgrounds to build a better, safer environment for everyone. We ask that all postdocs take steps to support members of our Jewish community by educating yourself, donating and/or reporting any hate crimes immediately.

Jewish postdocs have the right to openly express identification with Israel and their view on Israel, and the YPA will safeguard the abilities of these postdocs, as well as all postdocs, to participate in university activities free from discrimination and harassment.

For the safety and wellbeing of our Jewish community here at Yale, we must strive to work together to eliminate all forms of hate from our campus and community.
