The Faculty-Postdoc Mentoring Program is an annual program that matches a small group of postdocs with a faculty. This group setup combines guidance from faculty and peers, providing multiple perspectives and tailored advice.
Each group meets once a month to discuss various topics including career advice, lab management, job applications, work-life balance and more. Conversations are informal and guided by each group’s interests and needs. Additionally, a list of potential discussion topics is provided to each group and can be found here (Link is external).
The program runs from October to May. Postdocs can register in September through Yale Connect. Details, including signup links and specific dates, will be shared in the YPA and OPA newsletters (sign up). Postdocs are matched with faculty members based on their preferences and their field of study, and may participate in up to two different groups. Each group is coordinated by a designated group manager, who helps organize the monthly meetings.
In the round of 2024-2025, 44 postdocs and 19 faculty members participated. 17 postdocs were part of two mentoring groups. 75% of participants found the feedback of the faculty mentor helpful or very helpful. 100% of participants were satisfied or very satisfied with the program.
NEW: Industry Track
In the upcoming round of the program, we are introducing for the first time an Industry Track, which will pair a small group of postdocs with industry representatives/mentors. Industry mentors will rotate across postdoc groups, offering a variety of perspectives on topics such as resumé review, interview preparation, industry-focused skill building, and more. This format will provide postdocs the opportunity to engage with a diverse set of professionals and explore multiple career paths.
For more information about the program or to be added to the signup list before registrations are open, please contact the Faculty-Postdoc Mentoring program leaders.
