Dr. Afsheen Nasir is a Postdoctoral Research Scholar in Emergency Medicine at Yale University. Dr. Nasir’s research interests focus on disparities related to sex, race, and socioeconomic status in the outcomes of aortic and cardiac diseases. As a co-investigator for Women’s Health Research at Yale, she has led pilot projects examining disparities in elective and emergent aortic surgery outcomes, along with the underlying causes, including patterns of surveillance using big data from Yale Imaging Centers. Her curiosity extends to the role of pregnancy and female reproductive hormones in the progression of cardiac diseases. Her work has been showcased at many conferences including American Heart Association, American Association for Thoracic Surgery and Eastern Cardiothoracic Surgical Society. She also serves as a peer-reviewer for scientific journals. Utilizing YPA Mentorship Committee’s Modern Instructor Program, she aims to enhance accessibility for research resources necessary to carry out Health Equity Research while enabling postdoctoral community’s professional development in teaching experience.
