Jon is a postdoctoral associate in the Yale School of Medicine, Department of Genetics. He studies RNA regulation during zebrafish development in the Cardiovascular Research Center in Dr. Stefania Nicoli’s lab. He obtained his Ph.D. at the University of Missouri-Kansas City studying under Dr. Hillary McGraw. His doctoral work investigated how a mutation in the gene foxg1a resulted in abnormal development and regeneration of mechanosensory cells in the zebrafish lateral line. Jon hopes to pursue a career in academia as he has a love of teaching and mentoring in addition to his passion for research.

Outside of scientific pursuits, Jon likes to be active in many in many ways including bouldering, hiking, kickboxing, snowboarding, and motorcycle racing. Jon is also an avid fan of metal music and can often be seen sporting a death metal t-shirt around the lab.
