Luis is an Associate Research Scientist in Mental Health Outcomes and Chronic Diseases at Yale School of Medicine. His interdisciplinary research focuses on developing epidemiological methods for big data from electronic health records, digital health implementation to promote tobacco cessation, and substance use prevention among high-risk groups, including cancer survivors and veterans. Luis earned his PhD in Epidemiology from the Indiana University School of Public Health-Bloomington, where he held multiple student leadership and advocacy roles focused on managing funding from student fees and on greater student integration into institutional affairs. At Yale, he quickly became active in the Yale Postdoctoral Association (YPA), joining various committees, including the Belonging, Mentorship, and Professional Development Committee, and co-hosting the Pint of Postdocs event series for a year and a half. As Co-Coordinator of the Belonging Committee, he focused on fostering inclusion through multiple series that promoted networking, community, and integration of postdocs within Yale. Now, as Chair of the YPA, Luis is dedicated to building a stronger postdoc and ARS community and expanding collaborative and networking opportunities across Yale that overlap with YPA’s mission.
