Chikondi Peno

Biography:
Chikondi is a Postdoctoral associate in the Dr Daniel Weinberger’s / Anne Wyllie’s Lab at Yale School of Public Health, in the department of epidemiology of microbial diseases. Her postdoctoral work focuses on the community transmission of respiratory pathogens. Chikondi is also working on developing and optimizing detection of pathogens and antibodies in saliva samples as part of the SalivaDirectTM team.  She Obtained her PhD in 2022 at University of Edinburgh in Professor Debby Bogaert’s lab. For her PhD work, she investigated the interactions between maternal pneumococcal immunisation, live attenuated influenza vaccine (LAIV), the respiratory microbiome, and subsequent pneumococcal colonisation dynamics in Gambian infant. Chikondi is a Malawian scientist with a passion to mentor young African girls interested to pursue STEM careers.
