Claire Laxton

Role: Advocacy Committee Co-coordinator

Biography:

Claire is a post-doctoral associate in the School of Public Health, working on discovering and developing novel applications for saliva in disease diagnostics. She got her PhD from the University of Nottingham, in the UK, where she served as an elected postgraduate student representative for her PhD program, liaising with academic staff on behalf of her cohort to improve student wellbeing. Claire cares deeply about social justice, constantly learning, and finding practical solutions to removing the barriers that currently prevent marginalized people from progressing in their careers and maintaining their wellbeing. As co-coordinator of the YPA’s advocacy committee, Claire hopes to advance programs which improve the experience of all post docs in Yale and keep the most marginalized post docs and their needs on the agendas of those people and systems with the power to best address them.
