Gaurav Singh

Role: Community and Networking Committee Member and Professional Development Committee Member

Biography:

Gaurav is a postdoctoral associate in Prof Aaron Dollar’s lab (GRAB Lab) in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science. His current research is in the field of modular robots, where inspired by the hierarchical architecture of biological systems such as muscles, he is studying networks of simple contracting actuators that mimic the behavior of muscle fibers. Previously, he did his BS in Mechanical Engineering from National Institute of Technology, Surathkal, India and his PhD in Systems Engineering at University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. During his PhD, he worked on the modeling and design of fiber reinforced pneumatic actuators with applications in soft robots and wearable orthotics. When he is not in the lab, he enjoys being outdoors preferably on a trail, camping or backpacking. He also enjoys cycling, cooking, and reading. Gaurav is looking forward to meeting fellow postdocs through the YPA and facilitate networking among them.
