Biography:

Matteo is a postdoctoral associate in the Schmitz Lab at the School of the Environment. He is an ecosystem ecologist studying how trophic interactions shape ecosystem functions in space and time. For his postdoctoral research, Matteo is using mathematical models to investigate how animals influence ecosystem carbon dynamics and exchanges with the atmosphere. Matteo obtained his PhD from Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador in 2021, where he studied how animals fit into the stoichiometry of ecosystem functioning. When not doing research, Matteo enjoys hiking, wildlife photography, and painting. He is also an avid Dungeons & Dragons player.
